Presidential Happenings

The presidents of MSA and MAS will offer special events on Monday and Tuesday. These events will include a keynote speaker and awards ceremonies, and are open to all conference attendees.



IMS Henry Clifton Sorby Award and Lecture

The winner of the Henry Clifton Sorby award will be announced in the Spring of 2003. The prize will be awarded and the winner will present a one hour talk at the beginning of the Symposium on Metallography and Physical Metallurgy.



Walter McCrone Memorial Symposium
Organizers: John Reffner and Edgar Etz

This symposium will celebrate the career of Dr. Walter McCrone, and highlight the far-reaching influence of his research and teaching activities. While this symposium will consist of invited talks, contributions to a special poster session are encouraged.



Late Breaking Poster Session
Organizer: Dave Piston

This is your avenue for presenting results obtained after the February 17th submission deadline. Contributions for late breaking posters can be submitted until two weeks before the meeting. Because space may be limited, we cannot guarantee acceptance of these contributions, but will attempt to accommodate as many as possible.

Computer Workshop/Software Exchange and the Internet Cafe
Organizers: Nestor Zaluzec and John Mansfield

The computer workshop and software exchange will be operating throughout the Meeting and will be located on the Exhibit floor adjacent to the society information booth. Participants can view and discuss the more than 500 Mbytes of data, programs, general information and images available in the public domain software library. A limited number of Mac and PC systems will be available for viewing, discussing and copying programs. In addition, a number of connections to the Internet are planned and will be available to all conference attendees to provide access to Email and WWW services. This will be contingent upon availability of systems with respect to any other workshop or meeting demonstrations and the arrangements with a local Internet Service Provider. The Workshop and Internet Cafe will only be available during normal Exhibit hours.



Exhibitor's Tutorials/Demos - Tuesday Evening

Signup sheets with titles and descriptions are at the MSA Education table in the MSA Mega Booth. When you sign up you will be issued a ticket, which you will need to renter the Hall after it is closed.

Latin Fiesta
Wednesday, August 6, 2003
Villita Assembly Building
8:00 pm to 11:30pm

Everyone is invited to this combination Presidents' Reception, and Fiesta to honor our colleagues from south of the Rio Grande including Central and South America. Admission is free (as is your first beverage). Bring your registration badge, for an evening of music, dancing and beverages. Note: no meal is provided. Eat before you come. The site is the Villita Assembly Building (and grounds) which is across the street from the Convention Center in La Villita ("little village"), the site of the city's original settlement and a San Antonio historical landmark. La Villita is also accessible via the River Walk.
